Next time someone asks me what my favourite Mayflower Trip has been, without hesitation, no doubt whatsoever, ‘the best trip ever’ has to be the Young Voices Choir performance at the arena in Birmingham this week. The most fun I have had for ages. Did I know the words off by heart? Definitely not ! Did it matter? Certainly not, because the choir members certainly did and they sang out loud and clear, along with the thousands of other children from across the Midlands. Did I remember all of the moves? Not really, but no worries the Urban Strides Dance Group were there to demonstrate and anyway it’s ok to freestyle, do your own thing, ‘get in the groove’!
We sang a great mix of songs: some I learned in my school choir and one from a favourite Saturday morning TV show – come on teachers, some of you will remember the Banana Splits Show ‘tra la la, tra la la’. Others were more up to date and it was even more exciting when one of the guest singers, Lucy Spraggan invited us to sing her new single with her! It felt as though ‘We are Unsinkable’ when we all sang together as one huge choir.
Mayflower just has to go again next year and it would be so cool if we could take even more of you with us! Audition for the Choir, come on give it a go, you never know what hidden talents you have until you search for them!
Thanks for inviting me along, Mayflower Choir, Mrs B and Mrs L. See you next week at choir practice!
I love Young Voices, it was amazing. That was the best day of my life! I hope more people join choir. Thank you to all the teachers at Mayflower School!!
